Terms of Use

These Terms of Use form a binding agreement between you and True Trade Path, the operator of truetradepath.com (the “Site”). By accessing or using the Site, including by using any calculator, estimator, guide or directory listing on it, you agree to be bound by these terms and by our privacy policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Site.

You must be at least 18 years old, or have the consent of a parent or guardian, to use the Site. If you use the Site on behalf of a business or other organization, you represent that you are authorised to bind that organization to these terms.

The Site provides free informational resources relating to the skilled trades and to residential property, including: calculators and estimators for electrical, mechanical, plumbing, construction and business calculations; career, wage, licensing and apprenticeship information; diagnostic and cost guides for home repairs; and a directory of trade businesses, trade schools and apprenticeship programs.

The Site is provided as a reference utility only. We are not a contractor, engineer, architect, electrician, plumber, mechanical contractor, licensed professional, inspector, code official, attorney, accountant, insurance adviser or employment agency. We do not perform work, supervise work, inspect work, broker work, refer customers to contractors, or participate in any transaction between you and any organization listed on the Site.

We may add, change, suspend or discontinue any part of the Site at any time without notice, and we do not guarantee that the Site or any tool will be available uninterrupted or error-free.

No professional relationship of any kind is created by your use of the Site. Nothing on the Site has been prepared with knowledge of your property, your equipment, your jurisdiction’s adopted codes and amendments, your existing installation, or any other condition that a competent professional would examine before making a determination.

Work that must be performed or reviewed by a licensed professional

You agree that the following work will be designed, performed, inspected or approved by a professional licensed and permitted in your jurisdiction, and that no output of this Site will be substituted for that professional’s judgement:

• Any work on electrical systems, including conductor sizing, overcurrent protection, grounding and bonding, service and panel work, and load calculations.
• Any work involving natural gas, propane, fuel oil, combustion appliances, venting or combustion air.
• Any work affecting structural elements, including framing alterations, load paths, beam and header sizing, foundations and roof structure.
• Any work on potable water, drainage, waste and vent systems, backflow prevention or cross-connection control.
• Any work involving refrigerants, pressure vessels, boilers or fuel-fired equipment.
• Any work requiring a permit, inspection or engineered design under applicable law.
• Any work involving asbestos, lead, mould or other hazardous material abatement.

Safety

Trade work is hazardous and can cause serious injury, death, fire, explosion, electrocution, structural failure, water damage and carbon monoxide poisoning. If you are not qualified, licensed where a licence is required, properly equipped and trained for a given task, do not attempt it. Where any doubt exists, stop and engage a licensed professional.

Cost estimates

Cost ranges and estimates on the Site describe what similar work has generally cost in broad regional terms during the collection period stated. They are not quotes, offers, appraisals, valuations or predictions of what you will be charged, and they do not account for site conditions, access, permit costs, code upgrades required on disturbance, material grade, scheduling, local labour markets or the scope a professional will actually specify. A written quote from a licensed professional who has examined the property supersedes any figure on this Site.

We apply the sourcing and review standards set out in our editorial policy, and we still make no warranty that any content on the Site is accurate, complete, current or fit for your purpose. Data changes, sources are revised, errors occur, and figures go out of date between review cycles.

Code editions are a specific and material limitation. Calculations derived from the National Electrical Code, the International Residential Code, the International Plumbing Code, the International Mechanical Code or any other model code implement a particular edition of that code, which is identified in the tool. Your jurisdiction may have adopted a different edition, may have amended the edition it adopted, may apply a different model code entirely, or may be subject to state or local provisions that displace it. The adopted code and the determination of the authority having jurisdiction always govern, and an output of this Site is not evidence of compliance with them.

Wage figures, employment projections, service lives, licensing requirements and cost ranges are historical or projected data attributed to their sources. They describe populations and periods, not your situation, and nothing on the Site is a representation about what you will earn, what a program will cost, how long licensing will take, or how long a piece of equipment will last.

THE SITE AND ALL CONTENT ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, ACCURACY AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

In using the Site you agree that you are responsible for:

• Engaging licensed professionals. Retaining appropriately licensed, insured and qualified professionals for any work that requires them under applicable law, and verifying their licence and insurance directly with the issuing authority and insurer rather than relying on any status shown on the Site.
• Permits and inspections. Obtaining every permit required for your work and submitting it to the inspections required by your jurisdiction.
• Verifying calculations. Confirming any calculation from the Site against the adopted code, the manufacturer’s instructions and, where applicable, an engineered design, before ordering material or performing work.
• Compliance with law. Complying with all applicable codes, ordinances, licensing requirements, safety regulations, HOA and lease restrictions and insurance conditions.
• Your own judgement. All decisions you make and all work you perform or commission, including the consequences of relying on any figure from the Site.

You further agree not to:

• Use the Site for any unlawful purpose, or in a way that infringes the rights of others.
• Scrape, harvest or systematically extract content or listing data from the Site, or use it to build or train a competing dataset, directory or model, except as expressly permitted in section 7.
• Submit a review that is false, that you were paid or otherwise compensated to submit, that concerns an organization you compete with, or that describes a transaction that did not occur.
• Submit a listing or listing change without authorisation from the organization concerned.
• Interfere with the operation or security of the Site, attempt to gain unauthorised access to it, or impose an unreasonable load on its infrastructure.
• Represent that True Trade Path has certified, approved, endorsed or recommended any organization, product or service. We do not.

The Site links to third-party websites and includes directory listings for independent organizations. Those links and listings are provided for reference. We do not control, operate, vet the work of, or accept responsibility for any third party, and inclusion in the directory is not an endorsement, certification, recommendation or warranty of any kind.

Verification badges on a listing describe a specific check performed on a specific date and nothing more; their exact meaning and limits are set out on our trust and methodology page. A badge is not a statement that an organization is currently licensed, adequately insured, competent, solvent or suitable for your job. Confirm licence status and insurance directly with the issuing authority and insurer before engaging anyone.

Any dealing between you and a third party — including any contract, payment, dispute, defect, delay or loss — is solely between you and that party. We are not a party to it, we receive no payment in connection with it, and we have no authority to intervene, mediate or compel any outcome.

Reviews and other user-submitted content express the views of the person who submitted them, not ours. We do not adopt or verify the factual accuracy of unverified community reviews, and we may remove content that violates these terms.

The Site, including its text, tool logic, data compilations, design, layout and marks, is owned by True Trade Path or its licensors and is protected by copyright, trademark and other intellectual property laws. The name True Trade Path and the Site’s logos may not be used without written permission.

You may view, print and download pages from the Site for your own personal, educational or internal business use, including printing a calculator result for a job file. You may quote short extracts with attribution and a link to the source page. Republication of substantial portions, commercial redistribution, framing, and automated extraction of content or listing data require our prior written permission.

Model codes and standards referenced on the Site are the copyrighted works of their respective publishers. We reference and describe requirements; we do not reproduce code text beyond what applicable law permits, and the published code remains the authoritative source.

If you submit content to the Site — a review, a listing, a correction — you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use, reproduce, publish and display it on the Site, and you confirm that you have the right to grant that licence. If you believe content on the Site infringes your copyright, send a notice complying with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act to hello@truetradepath.com.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, TRUE TRADE PATH, ITS OWNERS, OPERATORS, CONTRIBUTORS AND SUPPLIERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, BUSINESS OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SITE, REGARDLESS OF THE THEORY OF LIABILITY AND EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

THIS EXCLUSION APPLIES IN PARTICULAR TO ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM WORK PERFORMED, NOT PERFORMED, OR PERFORMED INCORRECTLY IN RELIANCE ON THE SITE; FROM PROPERTY DAMAGE, FIRE, FLOOD, EXPLOSION, ELECTRICAL FAULT, STRUCTURAL FAILURE, PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH; FROM A FAILED INSPECTION, A CODE VIOLATION OR A PERMIT REFUSAL; FROM AMOUNTS PAID TO OR CHARGED BY ANY CONTRACTOR OR ORGANIZATION; AND FROM ANY DEALING WITH AN ORGANIZATION LISTED IN THE DIRECTORY.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SITE WILL NOT EXCEED ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS (USD 100).

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of liability for certain damages, including personal injury caused by negligence. In those jurisdictions our liability is limited to the smallest extent permitted by law. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

You agree to indemnify, defend and hold harmless True Trade Path and its owners, operators and contributors from and against any claim, demand, action, loss, liability, damage, cost or expense, including reasonable attorneys’ fees, arising out of or relating to: your use of the Site; work you performed or commissioned in reliance on the Site; your breach of these terms; any content you submit to the Site, including any review or listing information; and any violation by you of applicable law or of the rights of a third party.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State in which the operator of the Site maintains its principal place of business, United States, without regard to its conflict of laws rules. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these terms or the Site will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts for that location, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts.

Nothing in this section decides arbitration, class-action waiver, jury-trial waiver or the limitation period. Those remain open and should be settled on the advice of counsel.

If any provision of these terms is held unenforceable, that provision will be limited or severed to the minimum extent necessary and the remaining provisions will remain in full force. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. These terms, together with the privacy policy, are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Site.

We may revise these terms at any time. The “Last updated” date at the head of this page reflects the current version, and the revised terms take effect when posted. Where a revision materially affects your rights we will note it prominently on this page. Your continued use of the Site after a revision takes effect constitutes acceptance of the revised terms. If you do not accept them, stop using the Site.
