Your unconditional right to removal

One email removes the listing

Any organization may have its listing removed from truetradepath.com at any time. We do not require a reason. We will not ask you to justify the request, offer you an incentive to stay, route you to a retention process, or make removal conditional on a phone call. Removal is free, it is permanent unless you ask us to reverse it, and it applies whether or not the listing was verified.

This is not a concession. A directory built on consent has to be one a listed organization can leave, and a right to leave that comes with friction attached is not a right. The only thing we ask for is confirmation that the request comes from someone authorised to make it, so that a competitor cannot remove your listing on your behalf.

To remove a listing, email listings@truetradepath.com from an address at your organization’s domain with the listing address and the words “remove this listing”. That is the whole process.

How to send a request

All listing requests are handled by email at listings@truetradepath.com. Use the subject line given for your request type below and include the details listed with it. A request that identifies the listing and the authorised sender is usually resolved in one exchange.

A web form is coming

A self-service claim and update form is in development, along with a verified organization portal. Until they exist, email is the route. It has the advantage of producing a written record on both sides of exactly what was requested and when, which matters most for the request type where it matters most: removal.

What to send, by request type

Remove a listing

Withdraw the organization from the directory entirely. No reason is required and none will be asked for.

Include in your message

  • The address of the listing page, or the organization name and city if you cannot find it.
  • The words "remove this listing".
  • Your name and role at the organization.
  • A message sent from an email address at the organization's domain, or a phone number at which we can confirm your authority.

Response time

Acknowledged within 3 business days and actioned within 5 business days. Once removed, the listing is not reinstated unless the organization asks us to reinstate it.

Correct a listing

Fix details that are wrong or out of date: address, phone number, service area, trade categories, licence number, programs, costs or intake dates.

Include in your message

  • The address of the listing page.
  • Each field that is wrong, quoted as we currently publish it.
  • The correct value for each field.
  • A link to the page on your own site that carries the correct information, where one exists.
  • Your name and role at the organization.

Response time

Acknowledged within 3 business days. Contact details and factual fields are corrected within 5 business days. Corrections that require re-verification against a public record are completed within 10 business days.

  • Your state licence number and issuing state, or your registration details where your trade is not licensed.

  • For a response, the exact text you want published beneath the review.

Response time

Acknowledged within 3 business days. Responses published within 5 business days. Fraud reports investigated within 10 business days, with the outcome explained either way.

How we confirm you are authorised

The check exists to protect you, not to slow you down. Without it, a competitor could remove your listing or change your phone number. We accept any one of the following:

  • A message sent from an email address at the organization’s own domain. This is the fastest route and is sufficient on its own.
  • A brief call to the phone number already published for the organization, either published by us or on the organization’s own website.
  • Where neither is available, a letter on organization stationery or a copy of a licence or registration document naming you.

Where the request is removal and the sender’s authority is genuinely unclear, we suspend the listing while we confirm it rather than leaving it published. If we are wrong about the authority, the cost of being wrong should fall on us, not on the organization.

We do not act on listing changes from marketing agencies, lead brokers or reputation-management firms without written authorisation from the organization itself.

What a correction cannot change

We correct facts. We do not edit the record to improve how an organization appears.

  • User reviews. An organization can never edit, hide or delete a review of it. You may publish a response, and we will remove a review we determine to be fraudulent. We will not remove a genuine negative review at any price or on any relationship.
  • Public record facts. Where a state register shows a licence as expired or suspended, we publish what the register shows. If the register is wrong, have the issuing authority correct it and we will re-verify against the corrected record.
  • Verification wording. The status marks are fixed. We will not relabel a listing as certified, approved or recommended, because we do not certify, approve or recommend anyone.
  • Ranking position. Verification may move a listing up. Nothing else you can send us will, and nothing you can pay us will.

The reasoning behind each of these is set out on the trust and methodology page.

Common questions

Do I have to explain why I want to be removed?
No. Removal is unconditional. We do not ask for a reason, we do not offer an alternative first, and we do not require you to speak to anyone. One email and the listing comes down.
Will you keep my details after removal?
We retain only the minimum record needed to show that removal was requested and actioned, and to prevent the listing being recreated by a later data refresh. The published listing is deleted, and we hold no shadow copy for ranking or analytics purposes.
Can I be relisted later?
Yes. Removal is not permanent from your side. Email us and we will list the organization again, running the same verification we would run for a new submission.
How was my business listed if I never submitted it?
Listings are compiled from public records: state licence registers, registered-apprenticeship records, Secretary of State filings and accreditor rosters. Those records exist because the organization is licensed, registered or accredited. If you would rather not appear, ask for removal and we will remove it.
Can I have a negative review taken down?
Not by asking. An organization can never edit, hide or delete a user's review, and there is no paid or relationship route to removing one. You may publish a response beneath any review of you, and we will remove a review we determine to be fraudulent under the test set out in the review policy. Removing your listing entirely also removes the reviews attached to it, but we will not remove a listing selectively so that only unfavourable content disappears.
Someone at my company approved a listing I disagree with. What now?
Email us from an address at your organization's domain, state your role, and tell us what you want changed or removed. Where two people at an organization give us conflicting instructions, we suspend the listing while you resolve it internally. Suspension, not publication, is the default when authority is unclear.
